What to Expect

You will start your safari at 0830 hrs from your hotel in Hiriketiya. Step into your specialized mode of transport: a convertible tuk-tuk, each holding up to two passengers. These comfortable three-wheelers include onboard coolers to store your snacks and drinks; two-way radios; and wet-weather covers and umbrellas provided for bad weather conditions. You can even bring music to plug into the high-end sound system.

Your tour will take up to 4 hours to complete and combines sightseeing with food stops so that you can both see the city and taste its cuisine. Take a Tuk Tuk on a 4-hour countryside jaunt around the coastal town of Dickwella. Visit the Hummanaya Blowhole, the only blowhole in Sri Lanka. Stop at the Dickwella Fishing Harbour for a look at the fishermen at work. Tour the Wewurukannala Buddhist Temple, which has the largest seated Buddha Statue in the nation. Spend some time at a clay pottery workshop and a handloom fabric weaving workshop. Visit a local Cinnamon Processing Center to see the processing and purchase some fresh cinnamon. Relax on the shores of the calm Dandeniya Lake. Make a stop at what will be the longest railway bridge in South Asia, which is currently under construction. Finish off with a delicious lunch or dinner, depending on what time slot you select.

Comfortable walking shoes recommended for this tour. Drive time may change due to unpredictable road traffic. Photography stops on the way can be arranged but within locations with reasonable parking areas.
