Day 01: Airport > Colombo
Arrive at Colombo International Airport at. Here, you will be met by a designated chauffeur guide from Lakpura Travels.
Things to Remember:
- You will spend approximately 1 hour getting through the immigration cue and baggage collection.
- Your Chauffeur will be paging your name at the Airport Arrivals Lounge.
- After the formalities at the airport you will be escorted to your air-conditioned Car and proceed to Colombo and check into the hotel. (En-route enjoy a brief city tour in Colombo)
Day 02: Colombo > Jaffna
After the Lunch at the hotel check out and proceed to Colombo railway station to catch the Jaffna train. Thereafter overnight travel to Jaffna.
Currently a fully air-conditioned Chinese built Luxury train is operating between Jaffna town and Colombo city at 100Km/h Speed. All the Jaffna bound trains used to start from Colombo Fort except the Express A/C train and Yarl Devi which used to start from Mount Lavinia and used to travel via Wellawatte and Colombo Fort to Jaffna. As the train gets close to Jaffna you can enjoy views of shallow lagoons and salt pans, if you look at the map, you’ll see how the railway line hooks around onto the tip of Sri Lanka with sea to both sides. It’s a very special ride. The journey takes around 6 hours. (Travel Time: 6 to 6 ½ hrs)
Day 03: Jaffna > Jaffna
Pick up at 4.00 am transfer to hotel, early check in with breakfast, lunch will provide at 13.00 PM, by afternoon Jaffna city tour After Lunch at the Hotel go and experience the Jaffna city tour by local cycle. This tour can be commenced around 15.00 hrs and possible to change time depend on the guest’s availability.
Cycle tour will cover most of the Jaffna city attractions including fort, library, Supramaniyam park, old park, coastal villages, Rio ice cream, Nallur temple, St James church, St Mary’s Cathedral in Jaffna, Buddhist dagopa, statue of last king of Jaffna kingdom, arc of last kingdom’s palace, last king’s minister house etc.
Main roads will be avoided to maximum to avoid traffic. Each and every attraction will be explained to guests and ample time will be provided to relax and take snaps or selfies. Though the tour will cover approximately 18 km, guests request to shorten this trip will be honored.
Guests will be given the chance to purchase Jaffna wine, nelli cordials etc produced and sold by Catholic nuns, palmyrah products made by ladies. Likewise, opportunity will be provided to taste the Rio ice cream if the guests want to do so. At the end, sun set can be photographed or viewed at a suitable place, provided the sky is clear on that day. Tour will conclude at around 18.45.
On completion return to the hotel and relax.
Day 04: Jaffna > Jaffna
After the breakfast at the hotel visit Keerimalai Naguleswaram temple.
Keerimalai Naguleswaram temple is a famous Hindu temple in Keerimalai, located north of Jaffna, Northern Province, Sri Lanka in the suburb of Kankesanthurai. One of the oldest shrines of the region, it is the northernmost of the island's Pancha Ishwarams of Lord Siva, venerated by Hindus across the world from classical antiquity. Hindus believe its adjacent water tank, the Keerimalai Springs, to have curative properties, which irrigation studies attribute to high mineral content sourced from underground.
Thereafter proceed to see the Nilavarai Bottomless well. (Travel Time: 30mint to 45 mints).
Located at a crossroad, this beautiful natural well with its astonishing aquamarine color is said to be bottomless, with salt water in its depths attesting to its connection to the sea. Legend says that this is the place where Rama, the Hero of the Indian Hindu epic Ramayana, stopped to rest and finding himself thirsty plunged his arrow into the ground whereupon water came spurting out. This well has ever since provided a never-ending supply of fresh water.
Lunch at hotel rest, by evening pick up at 16.00 PM for Jaffna cooking class( Jaffna goat curry + Jaffna Puttu)
On completion return to the hotel and relax.
Day 05: Jaffna > Jaffna
After breakfast at the hotel proceed to Nagadeepa Island. (Travel Time: 1 to 1 ½ hrs)
Tour Nayinathivu a historic island to the north of Jaffna, which is known as Nagadeepa by the Sinhalese; and also had the name Manipallavam in ancient times. Get to see the land where the Naga people who worshipped the snake (or Naga) are believed to have lived. See the evidence of their passing in the snake worship at the ancient Nainativu Nagapooshani Amman Temple and the legends and history of Nagadeepa Purana Vihara.
Visit the historic Nagadeepa Purana Viharaya which is one of just sixteen of the holiest Buddhist sites in Sri Lanka. See the unique architecture of this vihara which is believed to be the place that Buddha stopped at during his second visit to Sri Lanka. Listen to the legends and history surrounding the visit and the construction of the temple.
Visit the Nainativu Nagaooshani Amman Temple, with a proven history of at least two millennia as according to records by Ptolemy. Get to know about the legends surrounding the Temples; such as those of God Indra's worship and much more. Enjoy looking at the majestic Dravidian Hindu architecture; with its four beautiful Gopurams, several halls or Mandapams, and chariots. Nainativu Nagaooshani Amman Temple is one of only 64 Shakthi Peedams around the world.
After lunch visit to Casuarina beach most beautiful beaches in Jaffna.
Casuarina Beach is in Karainagar, Jaffna District, Sri Lanka, about 20 kilometers from Jaffna.The Casuarina Beach in Karainagar is also called and written as Casoorina, Cashoorina and few other variants. This is considered to be the best beach in the Jaffna Peninsula with white sand. The beach got its name due the Casuarina Trees along the beach. The beach lies about 20 km off Jaffna and may take about 45 minutes to travel by a vehicle.
On completion of the visit, return to the hotel and relax
Day 06: Jaffna > Negombo
After the breakfast check out from the hotel and proceed to Negombo and check in to the Negombo Hotel. (Travel Time: 7 to 7 ½ hrs)
Later in the evening visit Munneswaram Kovil in Chilaw. (Travel Time: 50 to 60 mins)
Munneswaram temple is an important regional Hindu temple complex in Sri Lanka. It has been in existence at least since 1000 CE, although myths surrounding the temple associate it with the popular Indian epic Ramayana, and its legendary hero-king Rama. The temple is one of five ancient temples dedicated to Shiva in the region
On completion return to the hotel and relax.
Day 07: Negombo > Airport
After a relaxed morning and breakfast at the hotel check out and, drive to the Airport for your flight back home!
